Going carbon neutral is an incredibly important step for your school to make and we do our best to make sure that the process is as easy and smooth as possible.

When you take part in the Planet Savers program, this is what you can expect to get:

1. An energy audit, where students and staff join in.
2. An assisted program to help your school identify processes for the long-term management of energy resources through student, teacher and parent engagement.
3. Expert consultation with senior staff.
4. Professional development workshop for the whole school staff.
This workshop raises awareness of sustainability issues and provides practical strategies to develop your school's Energy Smart and Strategic Environment Management Plan (SEMP).
5. A free Lux meter to measure light levels.
6. An infra-red temperature reading gun.
7. A hand-held energy meter.
8. A place for your school's sustainability coordinator on our full-day sustainability coordinator workshop.
9. A whole year's phone and email support.
10. Creation of your school's sustainability policy vision, triple bottom line reporting (economic, ecological & social) and SEMP.
11. Expert advice on infrastructure investment to achieve SEMP goals.
12. Certification for completion of the Energy Smart Schools Project Program.

What you need to do to take part:

1. Designate a coordinator and assistant for the ESSP program in your school.
2. Form an ESSP working group/committee to work with the PSA team.  This team can comprise school staff, students or interested parents.
3. Support the working group to ensure you get the most out of the program (time release, extra meetings on curriculum days etc).
4. Choose which member of staff gets to participate in the full-day regional ESSP coordinators' workshop.
5. Monitor energy use data using the web-based 'Schools Energy Tracking System' (SETS).
6. Announce to the community your school's participation in the program and the efficiency targets that you are aiming to achieve.
7. Set a schedule to inform the school community of your progress.
8. Set up action teams and clubs with the students and the wider school community.
